‘The Great One’ vs ‘The American Nightmare’ is reportedly in the works.
Since The Rock came back to WWE on February 3, Cody Rhodes has been in his way. Initially, The Great One’s proposed match with Roman Reigns was changed due to fan pressure, and this led to the two locking horns until they squared off in a tag team match in the main event of WrestleMania Saturday. The build to the show heavily centred around the pair’s interactions with one another, which led to many fans wanting to see them square off one-on-one, something which we may get to see within the next year.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that a match between Rock and Cody Rhodes is planned, likely for WrestleMania 41.
“That (The Rock vs Cody Rhodes) is certainly the plan right now, yes, and not for a long time. Next year’s WrestleMania. It’s gonna be big, but man, Rock & Cody it’s natural. They booked it.”
-Dave Meltzer
This lends itself to what we saw last night on Monday Night Raw, as Rock interrupted Cody Rhodes’ title celebration and asked to hold his championship. It’s unclear how often we’ll see The Rock moving forward, but many will be glad to hear that the company are reportedly planning to have he and The American Nightmare square off down the line.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on a planned match between The Rock and Cody Rhodes as soon as we hear more.
