There’s reportedly some reality to the tension between AEW World Champion, CM Punk & Hangman Adam Page.

CM Punk opened AEW Dynamite last night with his first promo since returning from injury. Before CM Punk started to build his upcoming title match with Jon Moxley, CM Punk took a moment to call out former Champion, Hangman Adam Page.

Punk said he had some “not so important” things to get out of the way before getting to Jon Moxley and then called out Hangman, saying he could have a rematch right there and then. Hangman then didn’t come out and Punk called him a coward, also adding…

“A little bit of advice and I suggest you take: The apology must be as loud and as public as the disrespect, and if anyone else has a problem with the champion, well I suggest you come on down. Because everybody wants to be the champ until its time to do champ shit”

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer pointed out that it was weird for everyone and that nobody knew it was going to happen, saying that there is some reality to the feud between CM Punk & Hangman Adam Page:

“If you’re wondering about the CM Punk thing at the start of the show with Adam Page… that was weird, for everyone. As in, nobody knew he was going to do that.

If you remember months ago when they were feuding, and I said there was a lot of reality to it – well, there’s a lot of reality to it.”

“So, I don’t know what the deal was, and nobody else does either, but… Punk was supposed to go out there and talk about Moxley and build the match, and he did… after he talked about Adam Page.

“They may build something from it down the line, but it’s not scheduled for this pay-per-view, and nobody knew he was gonna do it.”

CM Punk is currently set to defend his AEW World Championship against Interim Champion, Jon Moxley next Wednesday on Dynamite. An announcement that took many fans by surprise as most expected it to be taking place at the upcoming All Out PPV in early Sept. Hangman Adam Page is currently set to be in the corner of the Dark Order as they compete in the AEW Trios Titles Tournament.
