Last week’s edition of AEW Dynamite opened with AEW World Champion CM Punk calling out Hangman Adam Page to no avail, before turning his attention towards his opponent for the upcoming All Out PPV, Jon Moxley. Following the show, a number of reports began to circulate stating that Punk calling out Page was unplanned, with the pair apparently not on the best of terms behind the scenes.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, AEW President Tony Khan commented on the call out, stating that he believes it was simply unresolved anger from their previous world title match at all out, with Punk’s absence due to injury not allowing these issues to be resolved immediately.

“It’s unresolved anger, I think, from the world title match at Double or Nothing and we had not really tied up all those issues. CM Punk made one appearance to wrestle after Double or Nothing and it was immediately after that he got injured and was forced to step away. There was clearly some stuff that never got resolved at Double or Nothing. Then, immediately, jumped into somebody who has challenged him, in not a type of match we’ve never had in AEW before. We’ve had interim championships established, but we’ve never had an Interim World Champion or an Undisputed World Championship match like this,”

Khan went on to promote Punk’s upcoming AEW World Title Unification match against Jon Moxley, a match originally slated for All Out before being moved forward to tonight’s Dynamite.

As of writing, Page has yet to properly comment on the situation between himself and Punk, although the call out was briefly referenced during the most recent episode of Being The Elite.
