Tony Khan Addresses Mistico’s Status Heading Into Grand Slam: Mexico
Tony Khan says Mistico won’t be at AEW Redemption but should be ready for Grand Slam: Mexico on August 5.
AEW has built strong working relationships with several promotions around the world, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling, CMLL, Revolution Pro Wrestling, and others. Those partnerships have allowed talent to move freely between companies, with some wrestlers even signing dual contracts to compete across multiple promotions.
One such talent is Mistico, who officially joined AEW on a dual contract at AEW Revolution earlier this year and has since appeared regularly for both AEW and CMLL. However, after being absent in recent weeks, AEW President Tony Khan addressed Mistico’s status during his post-AEW Dynamite livestream.
During an appearance on CMLL’s Informa, Mistico confirmed that he is currently dealing with an injury to his left knee. After promising to repay Salvador Lutteroth for his time away from the ring, Mistico requested that an apuestas match against Averno be scheduled for the future.
While Mistico will not appear at AEW Collision on Saturday or AEW Redemption on Sunday, his return appears likely for AEW Grand Slam: Mexico in two weeks’ time. The special television event will serve as AEW’s final major show before All In: London, where, if available, Mistico is expected to feature on the card.
Who Mistico faces at AEW Grand Slam Mexico will ultimately depend on Tony Khan’s plans and who is available for a marquee match. Potential opponents for a standout television bout could include the likes of Bandido, Andrade El Idolo, or even Will Ospreay. AEW has made a habit of delivering stacked cards for its Grand Slam events, including last year’s debut in Mexico, where Mistico faced MJF in a highly anticipated clash.
