Tony Schiavone Says Nigel McGuinness Is The Best Colour Analyst He’s Ever Worked With

Tony Schiavone praises Nigel McGuinness as a commentary partner.
On October 14, 2023, Tony Schiavone began appearing more regularly behind the desk on AEW Collision, joining the show’s original colour commentator Nigel McGuinness to be the play-by-play voice of Saturday nights. The pair are now the established announce team for the promotion’s second brand, and Schiavone has now offered high praise to his Collision commentary partner.
Speaking on What Happened When, Tony Schiavone called Nigel McGuinness the best colour analyst he’s ever worked with.
“Nigel is probably the best color analyst I’ve ever worked with, and I’ve worked with a lot of them. I say this because no one is prepared to do his job like Nigel McGuinness is. I know that I do not have to always get [Nigel] up to date on the storylines because I know Nigel is always prepared to do that. And that means a lot to a guy in my position. An old guy can’t remember everything, and I can always lean on Nigel because he’s got these notes. That’s why I think he’s the best. I really do. I really, really enjoy working with him.”

McGuinness first began working as a colour commentator when he sat alongside Kevin Kelly during Ring Of Honor tapings in 2011. However, it was when he joined WWE that he became a regular behind the desk. The 50-year-old had a six-year tenure where he could be heard on shows like NXT, Main Event, and 205 Live, before heading to AEW in 2023.
Despite still being commonplace on commentary, the Brit made his stunning return to the ring at All In 2024, and he still continues to make sporadic appearances in the ring. Up next, McGuinness is set to take on Josh Woods in a Pure Rules match at ROH Supercard of Honor on May 15.
