Trick Williams has discussed whether fans can expect open challenges after his WWE WrestleMania 42 win,

Last night, Trick Williams marked his first WrestleMania by winning the United States Championship. Before him, title holders like Sami Zayn, Ilja Dragunov, and Carmelo Hayes all held open challenges for the gold each week on SmackDown, paying homage to John Cena’s beloved run as U.S. Champion back in 2015. Now, Williams had addressed whether this is something he’s looking to continue as he begins his reign.

Speaking to ESPN following his title win, Trick Williams said he wasn’t sure about giving people free championships matches on SmackDown.

“I’m a superstar and I wear that very seriously, so I don’t know about these free matches every single Friday night. When the people see Trick Williams, it’s gonna be in a main event. It’s gonna be a show when I defend this title.”

Williams’ win brought Sami Zayn’s reign as champion to an end at just 23 days. With seven title changes since last year’s WrestleMania, the former NXT Champion will be hoping to buck the recent trend by having an extended reign now that he’s claimed his first championship on WWE’s main roster.

Also on night two of WrestleMania, fans saw Brock Lesnar leave his gloves and boots in the ring following his loss to Oba Femi, with recent reports indicating most backstage didn’t know ‘The Beast Incarnate’ was planning to retire. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Trick Williams as soon as we hear more.
