This past Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite saw Mark Briscoe defeat Jay Lethal in the main event in a match designed to honour the legacy of the late, great Jay Briscoe. After the match, the AEE locker room emptied out to pay their respects to Briscoe, although one notable absence was AEW EVP Kenny Omega.
Fightful Select have now provided an update on the reasoning behind Omega’s absence, reporting that the IWGP United States Champion is currently dealing with visa issues and thus couldn’t make the show.
“We’re told Kenny Omega wanted to be there, but has been battling visa issues. FTR had already been scheduled to be backstage at the show.”

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided further clarification on Omega’s situation, noting that he wanted to be there to honour his friend but was unable to. Additionally, Meltzer is reporting that Omega is expected to be available by next week’s Dynamite, although that isn’t confirmed as of writing.
“Kenny Omega has been off TV for a few weeks due to a visa issue. He badly wanted to be at the show in Lexington because he loved Jay Briscoe but was unable to be there. The hope is that he can return on 2/1 in Dayton but that’s not a lock.”

As one-third of AEW’s World Trios Champions, Omega is a crucial part of the company’s weekly programing, and thus we hope to see him return to television as soon as possible.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Omega’s visa issues as soon as we hear more.
