Will Ospreay hits back at critics of his promo from last week’s AEW Dynamite.

Ahead of a face-to-face between Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland on the June 17 edition of AEW Dynamite, Ospreay spoke with Tony Schiavone, where he made an unsavoury remark about celebrating his marriage to Alex Windsor, prompting backlash from a section of fans online.

Speaking to Baby Huey on 107.7 The Bone, Will Ospreay addressed criticism over his choice of words regarding his wife, joking that he was referring to Mario Kart before noting that neither Alex Windsor nor AEW or Warner Bros. Discovery officials had an issue with his comments.

“I don’t know why everyone was so mad about it. This is the thing. I said she’s a good wife. I was explaining how amazing of a person she is. She’s encouraged me to follow my dream. Then I said I took her upstairs and smashed the life out of her, at Mario Kart. Like, I beat her so bad at Mario Kart, and when I said to her, ‘Clean yourself up, love. I’m going to Houston,’ she was sweating, mate. She was sweating trying to play this game. It’s 38 degrees over in England right now. It’s so hot. I don’t get why everyone was so mad about it, I’ll be honest with you guys. People got angry, and honestly, I attract anger everywhere I go, but I can’t please all you guys. This is me. I’m authentically myself. I don’t mean any harm. I’m just being funny. Here’s the thing that I’ll always say about this. My boss didn’t care. Warner Bros. didn’t care. Paramount Pictures didn’t care. My wife didn’t care. So on that note, I politely disagree with all of you if you have a problem with it. There are so many other things going on in the world that really need our attention, our love and our care. Don’t come to me with mine and my wife’s relationship. F*ck off.”

-Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay is set to face Swerve Strickland in the final of this year’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 28. The winner will earn an AEW World Championship match against MJF at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium.

Elsewhere during the interview, Will Ospreay revealed that he believes he has another five years before physical limitations force him to change his in-ring style. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the reaction to Will Ospreay’s divisive promo last week as soon as we hear more.
