Will Ospreay puts Ricochet on the same level as Rey Mysterio and wants him in AEW.

In early April, WWE began showing matches with a five-minute time-limit exclusively on X called ‘WWE Speed’. Here, a small tournament was held and Ricochet emerged as the first champion of the spin-off show, although he hasn’t appeared with the title on his subsequent appearances on Monday Night Raw. Now, a former rival of Ricochet has commented on his booking.

Speaking with Liam Crowley of Comicbook, Will Ospreay expressed concerns that some have forgotten the ability of Ricochet, saying that he has been a major source of inspiration for many high-flyers across the world, including ‘The Aerial Assassin’ himself.

“I keep up with him all the time and sometimes I get a little bit sad about it. I hope he’s not sad and I hope he’s real happy. I keep up with him as much as I can, but I feel like people are forgetting who Ricochet was once upon a time. All of these high-flyers that you see, and myself included, we all took inspiration from Pac and Ricochet.”

Speaking particularly on Ricochet’s time on WWE Speed, Ospreay says that WWE restricting the ‘One and Only’ to five-minute matches is ‘appalling’, and that he would put Ricochet on the same level as Rey Mysterio in terms of high-flyers.

“The fact that they only value his time for under five minutes is appalling to me. I just want people to remember who he is. If you go and look at 2012-2013 Dragon Gate Ricochet, he was untouchable at the time. When it came to this generation of high-flyers, he was the greatest. He’s the greatest high-flyer ever. I know it sounds weird, but I do include put him on the same level as Rey Mysterio.”

Previously, there has been some indications that Ricochet’s current WWE deal could be up this summer. On this, Ospreay says that, while he’s not exactly sure when it might be possible, he’d love to see the current WWE Speed Champion come to AEW.

“I don’t know how much longer he has got in his contract, but I think it might be up soon, man, I don’t know. I want him to know that there are people here that genuinely appreciate his work and I want to wrestle him again. I want him back here. I want him to know that there isn’t a bar. You are the f–king bar.

Ricochet recently wowed the RAW audience with his match against Ilja Dragunov as part of the King of the Ring tournament, but hasn’t appeared on the red brand since his first round defeat to ‘The Mad Dragon’. While the exact expiry date of his current contract is unknown, any suggestion that Ricochet may choose to explore his options in the near future is purely speculation at this stage.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Ricochet as soon as we hear more.
