Will Ospreay’s Mother Recalls Having To Convince Him He Wasn’t Useless After Leaving School
Will Ospreay’s mum has weighed in on her son’s success.
As of writing, Will Ospreay is just days away from the main event of All In: London at Wembley Stadium. However, the star has previously discussed how he didn’t fare well in school, noting that his neurodivergence meant he often didn’t have the support he needed to achieve academically. Now, his mother has reflected on his struggles in school and how he was better suited to another path.
On their YouTube channel, AEW released the latest instalment of their “Rebuild & Destroy” series, aiming to document Ospreay’s return to the ring. Episode four focused on his school life, with his mother recalling how she had to convince Will he wasn’t useless heading out of education.
“My biggest challenge as your mum was telling you that you are not useless. The first words you said to me when you left school, I said, ‘are you going to go to college or are you going to go to work? They are your two choices. They’re your only choices. You’re not going to sit indoors doing nothing. What are you going to do?’ You said, ‘I can’t, I’m done with education. I will go to work,’ and I went, ‘fine. What are you going to do?’ and you said, ‘I don’t know. I’m useless.’ That’s what you said to me. You were 16. You had done a 14-year apprenticeship at school, and you came out there telling me you were useless.”

Sue would go on to discuss how they won at both a local drama festival and the all-winners final which helped show her son’s skills at performing for an audience. She’d make note of the fact that Will missed out on his performing arts school of choice because of his grades in Maths, English, and Science.
As mentioned, “The Aerial Assassin” will look to dethrone Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship this Sunday at Wembley Stadium.
