AJ Styles: If WWE Don’t Capitalise On Chad Gable’s Momentum, We’re Dumb

AJ Styles implores WWE to capitalise on Chad Gable’s momentum.
On May 30, at AAA’s Noche de Los Grandes, El Grande Americano took on Original El Grande Americano in a mask vs. mask match. After the original Americano had lost, his identity was revealed to be Chad Gable, who humbly gave his name and birthplace before bestowing the gimmick to the winning star. After his performance, many are eagerly awaiting what WWE will do with Gable next, and a Hall of Famer has now emphasised the importance of getting it right.
Talking on the Phenomenally Retro Podcast, AJ Styles said WWE would be dumb to not capitalise on Chad Gable’s momentum.
“I think he’s a bigger superstar than he’s ever been at this very moment. And if we don’t capitalize, and I say we because I’m part of WWE. We don’t capitalize on this, we’re dumb. We’re dummies.”

While he hasn’t wrestled since losing his mask, Gable made his return to WWE programming in a backstage segment on last week’s SmackDown, where he personally apologised to Rey Fenix for his he treated Lucha Libre while portraying El Grande Americano. Although Fenix did accept the apology, he pointed out that he wasn’t the only one the former Olympian had offended while using the gimmick, potentially leading to a storyline in which Gable has to redeem himself in the eyes of the company’s Mexican talent.
Thus far, Gable’s time on the main roster has consisted exclusively of tag team gold, winning championships alongside Jason Jordan, Bobby Roode, and Otis. Off the back of his recent run, fans of the 40-year-old will be hoping singles success isn’t too far away.
