AEW Redemption Reportedly Had The Company’s Lowest Buy Rate Of The Year Thus Far

AEW Redemption

The buy rate for AEW’s latest PPV may not have been as high as some hoped.

Of late, many fans would agree that AEW have been on a strong run in terms of their pay-per-view output. Particularly this year, fans of the company have been treated to many stellar offering, with this part weekend’s ‘Redemption’ show being was the latest to be added to the promotion’s calendar. However, with many feeling it could keep up the impressive buy rate streak that the company had going, it now appears early estimates aren’t as high as previous outings.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed AEW Redemption had between 115,000 and 125,000 buys.

“Early estimates are the lowest PPV numbers of the year, maybe 115,000 to 125,000.

-Dave Meltzer

While this isn’t necessarily a bad number in itself, the company would likely point to both its newness as a pay-per-view and its placement in the year as possible reasons behind the drop. With events like Revolution having a proven track record of delivering for fans, Redemption’s first appearance as part of the rotation may not have afforded fans the same reassurance over its quality.

Plus, with Wembley right around the corner, fans likely felt more confident on certain match results, such as Kenny Omega’s retention over Kevin Knight, which could’ve impacted their choice of whether or not to purchase the show. Regardless, last weekend’s pay-per-view had strong match quality, impactful title changes, and story progression to make it a worthwhile watch for those who did opt to tune in.

On the topic of AEW Redemption, it was recently reported that Jacques Rougeau was almost asked to leave the event despite the company initially celebrating their family legacy. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll keep you posted on all things AEW, especially in the lead-up to All In: London, as things develop.
