Kyle Fletcher Says It’s Validating To Hear Names He Grew Up Idolising Call Him The Future Of AEW

Kyle Fletcher is hearing lots of people saying he’s the future of All Elite Wrestling, and he’s honored by those saying it.

In the world of wrestling, the focus is often on trying to find the stars of the future. At present, All Elite Wrestling have a promising crop of young talent who, at one point or another, have been dubbed “the future” by fans, critics, and even Tony Khan himself. Perhaps one of the more prevalent examples of someone earmarked for success is Kyle Fletcher, and the Australian has now addressed hearing top names endorse him.

While talking with Big Gold Belt Media recently Fletcher noted that he’s heard many names he used to look up to call him the future.

“You got to understand it’s not just one person deciding this. It’s 20 different people, ‘What do you think about this?’ And all of them saying, ‘Yes, he’s the guy. Let’s do this.’ All these ticks of approval are from people that I grew up idolizing. They’re looking at me and going, ‘Yes, he’s the future of AEW. He’s our f*cking guy.’ And that to me is like… sh*t, man. It’s hard for me to even grasp the fact that these people view me that way. And it’s super validating. It’s validating 15 years of my life that I’ve dedicated to this. It’s like, it wasn’t all for nothing. It was all for a purpose and it was all to get me here.”

Having come into the company as one-half of Aussie Open, Kyle’s journey to being considered the future wasn’t set in stone. With it initially looking like he would help bolster the company’s tag division, it was when Mark Davis unfortunately got injured not too long after joining AEW that things changed for “The Protostar”. Fletcher stepped into singles competition, capturing the ROH World Television Championship before joining up with Don Callis and becoming the performer we know today.

Since that point, he’s been the TNT, Trios, and International Champion. At just 27 years old, the star has competed for the Men’s World Title, main evented pay-per-views, and competed all over the world. This includes Arena Mexico where he appeared on August 4 in a special CMLL/AEW collaboration, one night before defending his International Championship against Mike Bailey on tonight’s Grand Slam: Mexico.

Recently, Fletcher reflected on his TNT Championship match with Tommaso Ciampa which took place earlier this year, noting the chemistry he felt despite it being their first match together. You can read more about that here.
