WWE Unveils Bracket For Tournament To Challenge Roman Reigns On RAW In Mexico City

WWE has revealed the full bracket for the tournament that will crown Roman Reigns’ next World Heavyweight Championship challenger.

The August 3 episode of RAW closed with Rey Mysterio approaching Reigns, wanting to ask him something relating to his General Manager duties at AAA, though the show went off the air before the full conversation played out. Mysterio revealed what had been discussed two days later in a video posted to WWE’s social media accounts, announcing a single elimination tournament featuring luchadores from RAW, SmackDown and AAA. The winner earns a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship against Reigns on the September 14 episode of RAW from Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, the first time RAW has emanated from the city in more than 15 years.

WWE published the bracket in full on August 7, confirming an eight-man field. The opening round begins on Monday’s RAW from the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, where Penta faces Laredo Kid. The second first-round match takes place on Saturday, August 15 at AAA’s event in Torreón, Mexico, as Psycho Clown meets La Parka.

The remaining two first-round matches both take place on the August 17 episode from Buffalo, New York. Dragon Lee faces El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr., while Rey Fenix takes on El Fiscal.

The winner of Penta against Laredo Kid will meet the winner of Psycho Clown against La Parka in one semifinal. On the other side of the bracket, the winner of Dragon Lee against El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. will face the winner of Rey Fenix against El Fiscal. WWE has not announced dates for the semifinals or the final.

Reigns is scheduled to appear on the August 17 and August 31 episodes editions of the red brand before the Mexico City show on September 14.
