AJ Styles Says He Would Come Out of Retirement To Wrestle Alongside His Sons At A Big Show

AJ Styles has discussed potentially coming out of retirement for his sons.

After an incredibly decorated career, former two-time WWE Champion AJ Styles retired from in ring competition in January at the WWE Royal Rumble. In the Hall Of Famer’s absence, attention is already turning to the next generation. Following his father’s retirement, AJ’s son, Avery Styles, is starting to make his way in the industry, debuting for GCW in late July against Alex Lev. Now, “The Phenomenal One” has addressed whether he’d come out of retirement to wrestle alongside his son.

Speaking on his podcast The AJ Styles Show, AJ Styles says he would come out of retirement to wrestle with Avery and his other sons at a big event, but he wouldn’t do it for an indie show.

“How long is it gonna take my son or sons to get into a position where I’m able to do this with them that matters? It doesn’t matter, listen I’m gonna be honest with you. I’m probably not gonna come back for an indie show. Even if it’s to wrestle with my boys. I’m not doing that. I don’t mind being a special guest and a manager kind of thing, but if I do come back, hopefully I’m not 60 and it’s on a big show. What father wouldn’t want to come back and tag with his sons?. So I don’t know if that opportunity will come because it depends how long it’s gonna take him”.

Alongside 19-year-old Avery, Styles is also father to 21-year-old Ajay, 16-year-old Albey, While the former United States Champion doesn’t seem in a rush to come out of retirement to team with them. However, he would certainly do it at the right time and the right event.

Styles seemingly wants his sons to make their own name first, which would make him teaming with them mean more. Avery Styles has certainly had a good start to his career so far. His style is patterned very much like his father in his younger days. That said as Avery’s career evolves and he gains more confidence, he will develop his own style and character.

Plus, AJ isn’t the only legend to have their son enter the world of wrestling in recent months. Sting’s son Steven Borden has built on his appeared in his father’s final match by starting wrestling training, often being seen competing in dark matches before AEW Dynamite.

In terms of father-son combinations, Rey and Dominik Mysterio became the first father-son tag team champions in WWE history in 2021. Plus, over a decade before that, fans saw Randy and Cowboy Bob Orton team up against The Undertaker in WWE in a handicap casket match in October 2005.

Whenever a father is able to team up with their sons in wrestling it’s always a special moment for both the family and the fans. Perhaps when the time is right we’ll see AJ Styles team up with his sons on a big stage. But, for now, whether that happens remains to be seen.
