Jim Johnston Says He Would Happily Compose Music For WWE Again, Doesn’t Think He’ll Get The Call

Jim Johnston discussed whether he’d return to WWE.

Having worked for WWE between 1985 and 2017, Jim Johnston is responsible for composing some of the most iconic theme songs in WWE history. The 74-year-old composed such themes “Electrifying” for The Rock and “Next Big Thing” for Brock Lesnar, while also being the man behind Stone Cold’s iconic glass shatter, providing wrestlers with music that was instantly recognisable. With some discontent among fans over the company’s current entrance themes, Johnson has now addressed whether he’d be open to a return.

Speaking on the All Access Entertainment Podcast, Jim Johnston says he’d be happy to compose music for WWE again, but doesn’t believe he’d be asked.

“I’d be happy to do it, but you have to be asked. The chances that Hunter is going to ask are close to zero. The chances that the WWE Music Group is going to call me up are zero, and the chances that the guy who is currently doing themes for WWE is going to call me up are zero. Why would you invite me in or invite somebody else in?”

-Jim Johnston

After the departure of Johnston from WWE in 2017, the company looked to CFO$ to compose their superstar themes. While not the same, they did create beloved entrance themes such as “Catch Your Breath” for Finn Balor and “Glorious” for Bobby Roode. Since 2020 onwards, though, WWE have relied upon Def Rebel, whose most notable works include “Head Of The Table” for Roman Reigns and “Visionary” for Seth Rollins.

While some of the more recent WWE themes have been decent, many fans have found them generic and hard to distinguish between certain stars, something which was never the case when Johnston was composing for WWE. He understood the nuances of each WWE superstar and would compose the perfect piece to fit their character.
