Will Ospreay On Callum Newman: We’re Brothers, Regardless Of What We’re Going Through

Will Ospreay was glad Callum Newman had his back at AEW All In: London.

Last night’s AEW All In: London saw Will Ospreay defeat Kenny Omega to capture the AEW World Championship on home soil at Wembley Stadium. Ospreay was joined at ringside by his United Empire stablemates Callum Newman, HENARE, and Francesco Akira, with Newman’s presence drawing attention given the pair had seemingly been on poor terms.

During the AEW All In: London post-show media scrum, Ospreay was asked by our own Lewis Lawes-Cole about having Newman in his corner on the biggest night of his career despite the tension between the pair.

“People need to understand me and Callum are always gonna have fallouts. We’re brothers. We share different philosophies of what wrestling is. I don’t like what he’s done with the United Empire, I’ll be honest with you. I hate the idea of outside interference. The moment we set up United Empire, I told the boys, ‘I don’t need you to get involved in my matches. I can do this by myself. If I can’t do it by myself, I shouldn’t be in these positions.’ Callum, on the other hand, will try any way to get the job done. Regardless of what we’re going through, because there is talks that we still need to have. He’s my little brother. I’ve known him since he was 15 years old. I’ve looked after him. I’ve kept him in school. I was able to get him a job at New Japan. He’s super talented. I was lucky enough to be there where he won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at 23 years old. The youngest kid to ever flipping do it, man.  On the most important night of my life, I know that we’ve got problems and I know that there’s things that we need to talk about, but I need my little brother on that night. Thankfully, he was there for me. I think we’ll probably end up going to the bar later and just be like, ‘Alright, cards on the table. Let’s have a chat.’ So let’s hope it goes well.”

Newman’s insistence on using outside interference, as noted by Ospreay, has been a particular point of contention between the pair, while the youngest-ever IWGP Heavyweight Champion was also far from pleased by Ospreay’s brief association with the Death Riders.

Nevertheless, Newman’s presence did not get in the way of Ospreay achieving his dream of capturing a world championship at Wembley Stadium, a moment he described during the media scrum as something that “means the world” to him. You can read more about that here.

Alongside being the AEW World Champion, Will Ospreay remains one-third of the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champions alongside HENARE and Francesco Akira. As such, when he eventually returns to New Japan Pro-Wrestling to defend the titles, it will be interesting to see how the dynamic between Ospreay and Newman plays out.
