AEW World Champion, CM Punk has held the company’s top prize since Double or Nothing in May but hasn’t been able to compete since June 1 due to a foot injury.

When it seemed like CM Punk had all the momentum in the world and was set for an incredible run during the summer, he sustained this foot injury. Jon Moxley was crowned the interim champion in Punk’s absence and the eventual face-off between the two has fans even more hyped for CM Punk’s return.

That unification bout may not be too long away. An update from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio suggests that Punk isn’t too far from his return.

“Punk should not be long before he returns, I mean not this month, probably not August, but perhaps All Out, perhaps Full Gear, I think it’ll be one of those shows when he’s back.”

– Dave Meltzer

This will be great news for AEW who currently have quite an extensive injury list. Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega are just some of the top names who are currently out of action. It will be interesting to see how many of AEW’s injured stars make it back for their next pay-per-view event, ‘All Out’ on September 4. This show takes place in CM Punk’s home of Chicago so many fans are hoping to see the injured champion return and become undisputed Champion in Chicago
