On June 6th earlier this year, AEW and NJPW came together to present their first ever joint pay-per view, Forbidden Door, from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. One of the matches featured on the card saw Jay White defend his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Kazuchika, Adam Cole and Hangman Adam Page in a fatal four way. Unfortunately for Cole, he would reportedly suffer a serious concussion during this bout, resulting in him being sidelined from in-ring action since the event in June.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now provided an update on Adam Cole’s injury status, revealing that a number of people are concerned for his in-ring future.

“Adam Cole’s situation was never asked about, but it’s very concerning since he’s been out since 6/26 in the four-way IWGP title match with Adam Page, Jay White and Kazuchika Okada. A number of people have brought up being very concerned for him.”

Meltzer previously reported in October that Cole’s return to AEW “could be tomorrow and it could be never”, and thus this most recent update certainly points towards Cole’s situation being far more serious than we initially thought.

As always, we wish Cole all the best in his recovery from injury, and hope that we’ll be able to see him back in an AEW ring when the time is right.
