Joshi wrestler Asahi has passed away.

On February 4th, Actwres girl’Z announced via Twitter/X that Asahi had tragically passed away due to an unexpected accident on February 1st. Asahi was just 21 years old and frequently competed for the company, with her last match taking place on January 31st as she teamed with Yufa to defeat Ayano Irie & Kira An. Prior to making the move to Actwres girl’z, Asahi primarily wrestled for Ice Ribbon, whilst also making appearances for Ganbare Pro and DREAM, among other companies in Japan.

Actwres girl’Z’s statement can be read below, within which they also revealed that their February 9th Shinkiba show had been cancelled for the time being, with further announcements to follow.

“We would like to inform you that Asahi, a member of our company, has passed away due to an unexpected accident. We would also like to inform you that the Shinkiba performance on February 9th has been cancelled for the time being. We will inform you about the future within the next day or two.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported Asahi so far.”

Asahi’s former home promotion Ice Ribbon additionally took to Twitter/X to share their condolences.

It’s worth stressing that, whilst some reports have stated that Asahi was involved in a traffic accident, this has yet to be confirmed, and the privacy of Asahi’s friends and family should be respected at this time without reckless speculation.

Asashi began training at the Ice Ribbon Dojo at 14 and went on to make her debut against the legendary Manami Toyota. She would wrestle for the promotion until March 2023, joining Actwres the following month.

Following the tragic announcement, tributes have been flooding in from fans, talent, and staff for a wrestler who brought an incredible amount of joy to those who had interacted with her or were familiar with her career.

Everyone here at WrestlePurists sends their condolences to Asahi’s friends, family, and fans at this difficult time.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on this incredibly tragic situation as soon as we hear more.
