AEW reportedly wanted CM Punk’s comments about Hangman Page to be removed from an upcoming interview, with the company aiming to offer Page a new deal.

CM Punk’s AEW return is just over 24 hours away, as the 44-year-old is gearing up to stand alongside FTR against Jay White, Juice Robinson and Samoa Joe. Many are excited to see the Chicago-born star return to the United Center this Saturday after nine months away from the company, though, Punk is obviously no stranger to controversy.

Later today, an interview with ESPN is set to release in which the former two-time AEW World Champion is believed to have spoken his mind regarding a lot of hot topics, including having some harsh words for Hangman Adam Page.

To elaborate on this, Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has written that AEW were hoping that the comments Punk made about Hangman in his recent interview wouldn’t reach their roster, which is largely because the company are trying to reach an agreement on a new contract for Page.

“There was a lot of internal and external talk in recent days about an interview Punk did. The interview was with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi and will be released on 6/16 so it’s best to wait until it is released to comment, past much of the talent at the 6/14 show were aware of the content and AEW was hoping that the comments Punk made about Adam Page would not be part of the article/video but the talent is largely aware of them. This is largely because the company is actively trying to sign Page to a new long-term deal. There was an attempt at damage control going on at press time but much of the talent was aware of what Punk originally said.”

What exactly Punk said during his interview remains to be seen, though, we don’t have to wait long to find out why many are expecting backlash, with it set to come out in just a few hours.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any updates on CM Punk’s interview and Hangman Page’s contract status as we hear more.
