On November 19th last year, AEW announced that the former 5-time KO-D Openweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita had officially signed with the company, following several highly impressive appearances on both their YouTube and TV shows. Takeshita remains signed to DDT in Japan, whilst also being a fully-fledged AEW roster member in the States, with many hopeful that he can continue the success he’s had in America thus far.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now provided an update on AEW’s plans for Takeshita, noting that whilst he’s currently being utilised to put talents higher in the pecking order over, there are significant plans for him to be elevated as a top-tier guy down the line.
“Although he’s not being featured on television right now, and when he is, he’s there to lose to the top stars in great matches, there are significant plans for Takeshita to be pushed as a top tier guy. Obviously the Don Callis scouting storyline looks to be a catalyst in some form.”

Thus far in AEW, Takeshita has already found himself in contention for the AEW World Championship, and thus it’s likely that the DDT star could eventually find himself as the company’s first-ever Japanese world champion.
Takeshita is set to take on Bryan Danielson on next week’s episode of Dynamite in LA, in what is likely to be an incredible match that only furthers the belief that he can be a top star for the company whenever they decide to pull the trigger on him.
