One of the many notable clauses stated within WWE contracts that the company often opt to put into effect, is the ability to freeze a talents contract throughout a period of injury, with that time then being added on to the talents contract once they’re able to return to the ring.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently confirmed that the same clause is present within a number of AEW talent contracts.
“If you are wondering if when guys are out of action if AEW can extend their contract like WWE does, their contracts do allow for that and it has happened.”

Although Meltzer didn’t explicitly mention which AEW stars have had their contracts extended as a result of an injury, significant stars such as Kenny Omega, Bryan Danielson, and CM Punk have all faced a lengthy period on the sidelines, and thus its fair to assume that AEW may have opted to utilise this clause to tie down some of their prized assets.
