AEW’s Luchasaurus Discusses Pneumonia Health Scare

Luchasaurus details the health scare that kept him off AEW TV for just under a year.
On September 30, 2024, Luchasaurus was rushed to the hospital after being found collapsed at his home, with doctors discovering that his blood oxygen level had dropped below 80% before determining that he had pneumonia in both lungs and was just days away from permanent damage.
Speaking to Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho, Luchasaurus opened up about his diagnosis and revealed that he was medically cleared within three months.
“I ended up getting sick. I got pneumonia, which took me into a situation where I was in bed with oxygen for a month. It got to the point where I was about to go out the door for, we were in New York for Grand Slam. Last time we did that, I was about to hop on the plane, and I had this cold that wouldn’t go away. Something inside of me was like, ‘I can’t get on that plane. I feel weird.’ I text doc and he’s like, ‘Yeah, stay home.’ They covered for me at work creatively that week. They gave me antibiotics, but it wasn’t getting better. All of a sudden, I felt really bad one day. We thought it was maybe a pulmonary embolism. So I was like, ‘Ah, sh*t, I just heard a friend who’s had that.’ It was so scary to think that. They were like, ‘No, you have actually pneumonia, but it’s spread to both lungs. We can give you these meds and just pray.’ I just figured, ‘You’re sick, who cares? I’ll get better.’ But then I started learning about actually how fragile your lungs are. And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, this is was a lot worse.’ [Brodie Lee] kinda started with something similar to what I had. I’m not sure on all the details, but I do know that he ended up having to go on the ventilator, and that’s what you don’t want to have happen. If you panic on the ventilator, you can blow your lungs, everything, you’re done. I never got to the ventilator. They just needed oxygen to get my oxygen back up, the antibiotics worked. And I was cleared within three months of it, but creatively, me and him [Jack Perry] found ourselves both at home for eight more months, even though we were both healthy.”

At the time of his initial health scare, Luchasaurus was in the middle of a storyline with Christian Cage, who had renamed him Killswitch. He would eventually return to AEW television in August 2025 and soon turned babyface by realigning with Jack Perry to reform Jurassic Express.
Luchasaurus is currently sidelined due to a shoulder injury, with All Elite Wrestling writing him off television by having The Demand attack him during the New Year’s Smash edition of AEW Dynamite on December 31, 2025.
