Athena Explains What Being ROH’s “Forever” Champion Means To Her

Athena is ready to defend the ROH Women’s World Championship forever.
Since winning the ROH Women’s World Championship at Final Battle in 2022, Athena has established herself as the dominant force and face of Ring of Honor, while also making a case as one of the most consistent women’s wrestlers in the world. Her reign has seen her collect numerous awards and accolades, surpass 1,350 days at Friday’s Death Before Dishonor, and continue with a critically praised 30-minute main event victory over STARDOM’s Hazuki.
Speaking during the post-PPV media scrum, the “Fallen Goddess” reflected on what it means to embody the word “Forever” in more ways than one.
“During my championship reign, I’ve dislocated my kneecap, I’ve had severe sprains to my ankle, I had a severe injury to my neck, but yet day in, [the ROH Women’s World Title] meant the world to me and so many people sitting at home hoping for the opportunity to not only step in the ring with me in a proving ground, but step in the ring against other champions. I come here to defend not only for myself, but for ROH. Forever is not just a word, it is truly forever motivating. Forever being determined, not bowing down to anyone that makes you feel less than. That’s just me. I am forever me.”

While many online have called for Tony Khan to finally move Athena to the AEW women’s roster, she appears more than content with her current role, having headlined numerous ROH PPVs throughout her near four-year reign.
The “American Joshi” has defended her title around the world and continues to put the spotlight on Ring of Honor, alongside fellow champions such as Bandido, who delivered a highly praised bout with Nick Wayne at Death Before Dishonor. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Athena as soon as we hear more.
