Athena: I Want To Win The AEW Women’s World Championship
Arhena wants AEW gold to further solidify her ROH dominance.
For many fans of Athena, her journey since joining All Elite Wrestling has been both profound and somewhat frustrating. Not long after joining the company, she went to Ring of Honor, winning the ROH Women’s World Title and becoming the most dominant champion in the promotion’s history. However, despite her accolades on the brand, she’s rarely seen on Dynamite and Collision, only coming in for occasional tournament spots. Now, “The Forever Champion” has her eyes on AEW gold.
In a chat with the Dallas Morning News, Athena talked about how she does want to get AEW gold so she can further justify all she’s done over these past 1350+ days as ROH Women’s World Champion.
“I feel like I’ve given the world to Ring of Honor. I’ve given years of my career being the ‘forever’ ROH champion. I’ve given so much to be the longest reigning champion in the modern day era, the most violent champion of the era. But when it comes to me, I want to do more with AEW. So this means more. I want to be AEW women’s champion. I want to be AEW TBS champion. I want to be an AEW tag champion to show the world that everything that I’ve done, holding a whole company on my back, climbing to the top of the mountain with it, was all worth it.”

The timing of this statement is important, as All Elite Wrestling will present their first Dynamite since All In: London tonight, with Mercedes Moné set to have her championship celebration on the show. Given that the program will emanate from Texas, it remains entirely possible that Athena could state her case for a future match with “The CEO” during Mercedes’ in-ring segment.
Athena last wrestled on August 21, defeating Hazuki to retain her ROH Women’s World Championship at Death Before Dishonor. The match received strong reviews across the wrestling world, and many can’t wait to see what “The Fallen Goddess” does next.
