‘The Machine’ Brian Cage has been with AEW since January 12, 2020. He quickly established Taz as his manager which saw the Suplex Machine reinstate the FTW Championship and award the title to Cage after more than 20 years of it being dormant. Despite being one-third of the current ROH Six Man Tag Team Champions alongside Kaun and Toa Liona, Cage’s run in the company has been very stop-start.

His last televised match in the company came in a losing effort to Jungle Boy on December 14th with him having made just a handful of appearances on the main shows in recent months. Fightful Select are now reporting that Brian Cage’s AEW contract is set to expire within the next few weeks unless an added extension can be agreed upon.

“Cage’s contract is set to expire in a matter of weeks, Fightful Select has learned. Cage’s deal was set to expire last year as well, before his option year was picked up by All Elite Wrestling.”

The report mentions that Cage felt pleasantly surprised by AEW choosing to keep him on for an extra year the last time his contract expiry loomed. This is mainly due to Cage’s lack of TV time prior to the extension but the decision was reportedly an act of good faith by the company. Cage is currently set to face Bryan Danielson on this Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite as part of The American Dragon’s build-up to challenge MJF for the AEW World Title.

Reportedly, there have been feelers in WWE to gauge whether there would be interest in Cage should the opportunity arise. However, it wasn’t made clear if there was any substantial interest from either party.

As always, we will update you on the contract status of Brian Cage and his future as soon as we hear more.
