We now have an update on the reasoning for Carlito’s planned return on the July 7th Smackdown not taking place.

On June 22nd, PWInsider reported that WWE were targeting the July 7th Smackdown taping at Madison Square Garden for Carlito’s return to the company, however this ultimately never came to fruition, and despite multiple reports of Carlito having signed with WWE, he’s yet to make an appearance on TV.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now provided an update on Carlito, further confirming that the 7/7 Smackdown was the original target for his return, although time constraints are believed to have led to this being cut.

“Carlito was originally scheduled to return on the 7/7 Smackdown show in Madison Square Garden, so the idea is he’s on the Smackdown brand. It ended up being cancelled because of how much they had to cram into the show.”

As pointed out by Meltzer, the initial planned return date would suggest that Carlito is expected to arrive on the blue brand, and thus with Rey Mysterio’s LWO having already been drafted to Smackdown, it seems likely that Carlito will pick up where he left off at Backlash and align with the stable.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Carlito’s return to WWE as soon as we hear more.
