There is reportedly no timeline for Mercedes Mone’s return from injury, though, when she does, it’s believed that she will challenge Giulia.

Mercedes Mone sustained an unfortunate injury on May 21 at NJPW Resurgence in the midst of battling Willow Nightingale over the then vacant Strong Women’s Title. This led to the AEW talent unexpectedly being crowned the first champion, an accolade which she held for 45 days before losing to Giulia of Stardom.

To provide an update on Mone’s injury status, Dave Meltzer stated in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that even those who would be expected to know the timeframe for her return aren’t exactly sure when it will be, though, when the time comes, the current plan is for her to challenge for Giulia’s NJPW Strong Women’s Championship, a title which Mercedes was reportedly planned to win prior to injury.

“Even people who you would think need to know don’t know the exact time line for a Mercedes Mone return. The plan right now is that when she returns, that she will face Giulia for the New Japan Strong title.”

– Dave Meltzer

Mercedes’ injury came at an inopportune time, as the star was on a hot streak battling some of the best women’s talent around. Prior to Resurgence, fans had enjoyed watching Mone compete with Mayu Iwatani over the IWGP Women’s Title as well as a triple threat with Hazuki and AZM.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Mercedes Mone’s injury and her plans upon return as we hear more.
