Chris Jericho clearly saw something special in the young Action Andretti in October of this year when he got to see him perform.

Action Andretti picked up a shock win vs Chris Jericho last night on Dynamite after securing the pinfall with a standing shooting star press. It was later announced that Andretti would be joining AEW full time after signing a deal with the promotion.

Dave Meltzer recently reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the direction for Andretti pinning Jericho was months in the making. Chris Jericho was witness to the earlier match between Action Andretti and QT Marshall on AEW Dark when he decided to make a star of the young talent.

Dave Meltzer would provide additional info on how the match came together.

“Action Andretti had a match on one of the streaming shows against QT Marshall and Chris Jericho was watching the match and decided at that moment that this guy is going to be a star. So, he decided that he’s going to make him a star,”

Dave Meltzer

One thing preventing the angle from happening sooner was Jericho’s former status as the ROH World Champion and his accompanying feud with Claudio Castagnoli.

“This match on this date was not something where it was decided yesterday. This was weeks and weeks and weeks ago. The date was decided the day of the Action Andretti and QT match,”

Dave Meltzer

Action Andretti’s match against Chris Jericho served not only as his Dynamite debut but also his first win within AEW, Action was defeated by QT Marshall, as well as Josh Woods and Tony Neese on previous episodes of AEW Dark.
