Chris Jericho: We’ve Never Worried About WWE, We’ve Been AEW Since Day One
Chris Jericho feels AEW is in a great place right now, regardless of what is happening in WWE.
Since AEW’s inception in 2019, fans have often made the comparison between the company and WWE. When one is on a particular hot streak, those in the wrestling bubble will often look at what the other could be doing to improve, and, at present, it seems as if All Elite Wrestling is receiving the more consistent positive feedback from its audience. As such, Chris Jericho has been asked whether the company can benefit from WWE’s recent change in perception.
In a chat with Shak Wrestling, Chris Jericho weighed in on things and noted AEW will just keep being itself, no matter what WWE does.
“I think it’s the same as always in that we’ve never worried about WWE. Ever. We’ve only worried about our own show, our own product, the quality of what we’re doing. And it’s not a perceived upswing [for AEW]. You can see in the numbers, the tickets sold, the ratings. And I think all of that is just because no matter what’s going on around us, we keep our noses to the grindstone and worry about what we’re doing. And what kind of matches and quality and variety. We’ve never been a WWE-lite. We’ve been AEW since day one and that’s never changed. Sometimes you like it and sometimes you don’t, but we’ve never changed it.”

Particularly since WrestleMania 42, WWE fans have grown frustrated by the company putting less of a focus on in-ring action. At this past weekend’s SummerSlam, only three matches went longer than 13 minutes, with many bouts feeling as if they ended without reaching their natural peak.
On the other hand, viewers of Dynamite and Collision have been mostly pleased by AEW’s output this year. Tomorrow is AEW Grand Slam: Mexico, where eight matches are being advertised for fans.
