CM Punk capped off an incredible night of wrestling during the main event of last night’s Double or Nothing PPV by defeating Hangman Adam Page to capture the AEW World Championship.

Punk now finds himself the top male championship holder of a major wrestling promotion for the first time since January 2013, and the Chicago native seemingly already has eyes on what the future may hold for his reign.

Speaking at the post-show media scrum following DoN, Punk highlighted two former WWE Champions as opponents he’d like to defend his newly-won gold against in the near future.

“I am looking forward to stepping into the ring with AEW talent. I always think number one with the bullet is always going to be Bryan Danielson. I’ve never wrestled Jon Moxley, I’ve wrestled Dean Ambrose, so that’s an interesting match-up. Still guys on my list that I’ve never wrestled with, Jungle Boy, Ricky Starks. I could probably finish out my career wrestling FTR every day for the rest of my life and it can be different and fun every single time. Will Hobbs is another guy that I think has all the potential in the world.”

AEW’s next major PPV event is set to take place at the United Centre in Chicago, the very same building that saw CM Punk’s historic AEW arrival last year.

Forbidden Door on June 26th will feature talent from both AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling, with the new AEW World Champion certain to play a huge part in the inaugural joint pay-per view between the two companies.

Punk highlighted current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada as a potential opponent for the event, alongside Hiroshi Tanahashi and Will Ospreay, with all three possibilities having the potential to steal the show should they take place.

“Well, obviously, we got Forbidden Door coming up, so, you know, to me focusing on that, I think Okada, Tanahashi, Ospreay, guys like that I’m looking forward to stepping in the ring with.”

It remains to be seen what the future will hold for CM Punk as AEW World Champion. The possibilities are seemingly endless with AEW’s vast array of talent, alongside the impending NJPW crossover. The Summer of Punk is sure to be an exciting one, and were certainly looking forward to seeing where the journey takes us.
