CM Punk’s last WWE appearance came during the WWE Raw after WrestleMania 42, where he addressed his recent losses both professionally and personally before teasing a challenge for Cody Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship.

Ahead of Backlash, a number of fans speculated that CM Punk could be Danhausen’s mystery partner in his tag team match against The Miz and Kit Wilson, although the role was ultimately filled by AAA’s Macasrita Sagrada portraying Minihausen.
