Darby Allin is backing Mick Foley to make an in-ring return for All Elite Wrestling.

Since the arrival of the “Hardcore Legend” in All Elite Wrestling, there has been plenty of speculation over whether Mick Foley will wrestle again, particularly given how other legends have stepped back into the ring after joining the promotion. Recent reports have suggested that Foley has already made up his mind on whether he will return to in-ring competition.

Darby Allin was asked about the possibility during an interview with The Mark Hoke Show and he made it clear that he would support Foley returning if that is what the WWE Hall of Famer wants to do.

“Just like Sting, if he feels that the final chapter is unwritten and he feels it in his soul, there shouldn’t be anything stopping him. Everybody told Sting, ‘There’s nothing else you can do in wrestling. You retired in 2014 when you had that neck injury. Why would you ever come back to wrestling?’ It’s because there was something in his spirit, a question that he had to answer. And if Mick Foley has that inside of him, by all means, do it.”

The key difference between Sting and Foley when it comes to returning to the ring is that Sting’s past injuries were far less severe than Foley’s. An episode of Dark Side of the Ring last year highlighted the ongoing struggles Foley faces with his mental faculties, with many fans online therefore being perfectly content with him not returning to in-ring competition, as it simply may not be safe for him.

While Darby may be giving his “seal of approval,” that doesn’t necessarily mean Foley will return to the ring. Ironically, Foley has said in the past that he would love to wrestle Darby, but Allin declined after hearing about the idea. Foley has also spoken highly of Darby’s work, although he was apparently unaware of just how much of an influence he had on the AEW star’s career until recently. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the possibility of Mick Foley stepping back into the ring for AEW as soon as we hear more.
