AEW’s Don Callis has suggested that he will need to add to his ‘family’ in order to combat The Elite.

On the May 10 edition of AEW Dynamite, fans were shocked to see Don Callis turn on Kenny Omega during his steel cage match with Jon Moxley. Then, 18 days later at Double or Nothing, when Omega was teaming as part of The Elite to take on the Blackpool Combat Club, Konosuke Takeshita sided with Callis by costing Kenny the win.

Since then, Takeshita and Callis have announced their intention to cut The Elite out of All Elite Wrestling in segments that garner nuclear heat from AEW crowds. While appearing on Talk Is Jericho, Callis discussed his stance opposing The Elite, stating that he feels the need to add to his ‘family’ to even the numbers.

“I have no choice for our own personal safety because The Elite have made it clear from rumors and things that I hear in the dressing room. I pay a lot of people here as you know, so I get information. Our buddy, Dr. Luther, is a backstage guy. I’ve known him longer than I’ve known you. You don’t think I hear things? They’re looking to destroy us because we embarrassed Kenny Omega. I have no choice for my own protection, for the protection of his (Takeshita) stellar career that’s going to take place under me, that we have to have at least even numbers to combat this.”

To further justify his search for more stablemates, Callis referenced Omega, reminding listeners that sticking to just one ally hasn’t worked well for him in the past.

“Here’s the thing. I had a family with one member in it, Kenny Omega, and it blew up in my face. I will not put myself in that situation ever again. I’m going to have a big family. I’m going to have multiple family members and they’re not just going to be anybody. They’re going to be the types of athletes like him (Takeshita) that are on the same level or higher than Kenny Omega, and we’re going to take care of business, and that’s how this is gonna go because again, this is not the friend business. This is the wrestling business. This is a results business, something The Elite chose not to pay attention to.”

As of writing, it’s unclear who may be recruited to join the Don Callis family. It appears as if the feud between Callis, Takeshita and The Elite is just getting started, with Omega, Hangman and The Bucks still contending with The Blackpool Combat Club at the same time.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any futher updates on who may be joining Don Callis’ group as we hear more.
