Finn Balor & Seth Rollins are reportedly running it back for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at this years WWE SummerSlam Premium Live Event.
The Judgement Day recently all appeared on this week’s episode of WWE NXT, continuing a feud of sorts with Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams. In the main event of NXT, Finn Balor & Damian Priest defeated Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams, with Finn Balor pinning the NXT Champion, Hayes.
When talking about the highlights of the show, Bryan Alvarez asked Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio if this meant that Finn Balor will be involved in the Great American Bash NXT Title match, that currently involves Hayes and No.1 Contender, Ilja Dragunov.
“Finn’s wrestling Seth at SummerSlam, so I doubt that they would put Finn in a match and have him not win it and put him in two championship matches that close together because they’re only a week apart”
– Dave Meltzer
Alvarez then goes on to wonder why WWE would have the NXT Champion pinned like this if there was no match they were building too. Meltzer then mentioned that WWE are trying to heat Balor back up again in preparation for the SummerSlam match.
“The reason they’re doing that is because Finn’s being protected right now. Finn’s beating everyone because they’ve gotta get Finn back ready for Seth.”
“I don’t know that they’re not doing the three way (vs Carmelo Hayes vs Ilja Dragunov at Great American Bash), but I do know that the plan was that Finn’s going over constantly because they’ve gotta rehab him for Seth because that’s SummerSlam”
– Dave Meltzer
Of course, a SummerSlam World Heavyweight Title match would be a rematch of a match they recently had at Money In The Bank which concluded with Seth Rollins emerging victorious. However, there were distractions in the match involving Money In The Bank Briefcase Winner, Damian Priest. Maybe he could play into the SummerSlam match, especially with tensions being on and off between Priest and Balor lately. They did seem to be on the same page this week though.
