When Gunther first joined the WWE main roster with his recent name change from WALTER to Gunther, many of his biggest fans were very nervous to see how his future would play out on the Main Roster.
During his time on Smackdown, he has been in nothing but dominant victories, with an upcoming Intercontinental Title match vs Ricochet (c) on this Friday’s Smackdown. So far so good for fans of his.
According to a report from Fightful Select, “people of influence” have been impressed by Gunther, also stating that there has been many things putting him in favour:
“We’re told that many things have put him in favor with WWE. Among them include his move to the United States, and his dedication to his diet and training. Those that we spoke to within WWE said that Walter getting in shape and being willing to move to the United States after not seeming interested in the latter was a good sign for him.”

Fightful Select also report that Gunther’s willing to “play ball” regarding things like his name change and Imperium splitting up have gone his in his favour too.
Vince McMahon is also said to be a fan:
“At least one source indicated to us that Vince McMahon enjoyed Gunther’s in-ring work based on what he’s seen of it on the Smackdown brand!”

Gunther could potentially be the Intercontinental Champion by the end of Friday night, so it will be interesting to see how WWE use him as a champion if he is to beat Ricochet for the belt.
