Johnny Gargano was one of the many names brought back to WWE by Triple H over the summer months of last year. He began his second stint in the company by teaming with Dexter Lumis in a feud with The Miz which reached its conclusion in December and, since then, has travelled back to NXT where he found himself engaged in a rivalry with Grayson Waller.

Over WrestleMania weekend, Gargano had an unsanctioned match against his Australian foe but hasn’t been seen on WWE programming since. Many fans linked this to Vince McMahon’s return to the company and impact on creative but Fightful Select are reporting that his absence is actually down to a shoulder injury which the former NXT Champion has been dealing with since January.

Fightful Select has learned that Gargano re-aggravated the shoulder injury that had him sidelined for much of January. After only having a couple of matches his first few weeks back, Gargano ended up wrestling a dozen matches after March 4.

Gargano was able to compete in January 28’s Royal Rumble match but the report notes that his injury only got worse following his inclusion. The company are hoping that Johnny’s current absence will allow him to complete a full recovery through physical therapy without needing to have surgery.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any updates on Johnny Gargano and his condition as we hear more.
