With tonight’s AEW Dynamite just a few hours away, many fans are rightfully excited ahead of the show’s scheduled main event, with CM Punk and Jon Moxley set to collide to crown an Undisputed AEW World Champion. The match was originally set to take place at the upcoming All Out PPV, although an announcement was made during last week’s Dynamite revealing that the bout was being brought ahead to tonight’s show in Cleveland.

Fightful Select have now provided a report on who originally pitched the idea of the bout being moved ahead to tonight’s Dynamite, with Jon Moxley pushing for the match to be made tonight, whilst Punk was seemingly more reluctant but ultimately agreed.

“AEW sources indicated to Fightful that Jon Moxley was in favor of the move, and one source even indicated that it was his idea and pitch, and All Elite Wrestling went with it. The same source also said that “eventually CM Punk agreed to it.””

The report then notes that Fightful Select are unsure as to whether the change of plans has anything to do with the recent backstage unrest involving CM Punk

Additionally, Graposdy’s Will Washington revealed on the air that he’d heard there was an idea in play a few days before to increase ticket sales and add buzz to the Cleveland AEW show, and thus moving the World Championship unification bout was certainly a way to make that happen.

AEW officials didn’t respond to Fightful when they enquired about the story, with creative plans following tonight’s bout still unknown. Fightful had reported last week that “multiple plans had changed” heading into All Out, and thus time will tell as to how tonight’s events will play into the upcoming PPV.
