The nature of Kevin Owen’s recent injury has been confirmed.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has confirmed that the former Universal Champion, Kevin Owens was injured at a house show in Madison, Wisconsin during a match with Austin Theory.

“We have confirmed that the injury is an MCL sprain. The way it was worded was that hopefully that is all the injury is with the idea it could be more than that.”

During the penultimate match of the evening, Owens had apparently pivoted and blew out his right knee. The two wrestlers still made it to the finish which saw Kevin Owens hit the stunner for the pinfall, however Kevin Owens unfortunately needed assistance from the match’s referee to get back behind the curtain.

Kevin Owens has been absent from WWE television for a few weeks due to his empty schedule for WWE’s recent Crown Jewel live event.
