NJPW recently announced the 48 competitors set to compete in the New Japan Cup. One of the names that surprised many people was Kota Ibushi. Many fans worried it may have been too early for him to make a comeback from what was said to be a pretty serious shoulder injury.
It turns out that the skeptics were right. NJPW posted this to their website:
Kota Ibushi has been diligently preparing for a scheduled return on March 1 at the Nippon Budokan. However, after careful consultation with trainers, medical staff and the NJPW medical committee, and based on the results of a final medical evaluation, the difficult decision has been made to delay Ibushi’s return, and remove him from Wednesday’s Anniversary card. The following change has been made to the event.
Not the news any of us wanted. Ibushi is so good that any tournament missing out on Ibushi is worse for it. We hope Kota Ibushi can make a full recovery before too long and get back in the ring. There is so many fun possibilities for him, especially when you think about the Forbidden Door too.
