The former AEW World Trios Champion has shared his thoughts on his lack of AEW singles matches.

As of writing, Malakai Black’s most recent AEW singles match came on the 22nd of June, 2022, as the House of Black leader defeated Penta Oscuro in an All-Atlantic Title qualifying match on Dynamite. Since then, Malakai has competed only in tag and trios bouts alongside his HoB stablemates, leading many to question the reasoning behind his lengthy absence from singles competition.

Malakai himself had now commented on the speculation regarding his lack of singles matches, noting that whilst he’s unsure as to the reasoning behind this, it has nothing to do with the back injury he was dealing with last year. He also added, however, that he’s currently dealing with a minor knee and calf injury, hence his recent in-ring absence.

At AEW Revolution in March earlier this year, House of Black defeated The Elite to become the AEW World Trios Champions, with Black, Brodie King, and Buddy Matthews holding the titles for 175 days before losing to The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium this August.

During Malakai’s tenure in WWE as Aleister Black, he consistently proved himself as a top-tier singles competitor, with his reign as NXT Champion being a highlight, and thus many will be hopeful of seeing him return to singles action sooner or later.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the status of Malakai Black as soon as we hear more.
