Mercedes Mone wrestled in her first match for NJPW since leaving WWE in May on Saturday at NJPW Battle in the Valley. Mercedes defeated KAIRI to win the IWGP Women’s Championship.
Before NJPW Battle in the Valley, Mone was questioned by ESPN’s Marc Raimondi about her interest in entering MMA while she was the champion of a wrestling promotion that wasn’t WWE.
“I definitely don’t think so, No, no MMA for me. Never say never, but you can definitely see some of my Sityodtong [MMA camp] techniques in the ring. Let me see Amanda Nunes, is she ready for me?”
– Mercedes Monè
She was also asked about a potential WWE return in the future:
“I guess people like to say ‘never say never.’ You never know in life. I never knew life would take me here, but I always have to follow my heart so wherever my heart takes me is where I’m going to go.”
– Mercedes Monè
Mercedes next match in NJPW is still yet to be announced, but now she is the IWGP Womens Champion, one can be expected to be announced in the near future. Mercedes could also be making her STARDOM debut soon, NJPW’s all women sister promotion.
