Since returning to WWE as both the Head of Talent Relations and Head of Creative, Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque has overseen the returns of multiple former WWE Superstars, including the likes of Dakota Kai, Karrion Kross, and Johnny Gargano amongst others, although it appears as though the company’s efforts to aquire more talent isn’t over yet.

Following the recent news of Malakai Black having his conditional AEW release granted, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an update, noting that Black was one of many AEW stars to have requested their release following contact being made by WWE.

“What we do know is that Black was one of the people WWE reached out to even though he had signed a five-year deal with AEW. When Paul Levesque took over from Vince McMahon, WWE contacted a number of former WWE talents that were working there that either had left on their own or that Vince McMahon had fired. Black was not the only person to ask for his release at the time.”

Meltzer didn’t elaborate on who the talents in question were, or how successful their requests were, although as of writing it appears that Black is the only name thus far to have their release request granted, albeit with a seemingly lengthy no-compete clause.

Time will tell as to whether the man formerly known as Aleister Black makes his way back to WWE, however for now everyone at WrestlePurists wishes him all the best during his time away from the ring.
