Nic Nemeth speaks on being selfless during his time with WWE.

After a spell as part of The Spirit Squad and a brief return to Ohio Valley Wrestling, Nic Nemeth re-debuted in WWE in 2008 as Dolph Ziggler and would go on to become one of the company’s most consistent performers before his release in 2023. Having long been regarded as one of WWE’s most giving wrestlers when it came to bumping for opponents, Nemeth has now opened up on why he believes he never received the sustained main event run that many fans felt he deserved.

Appearing on The Sweet Pop, Nic Nemeth reflected on his selflessness during his time with WWE and noted that professional wrestlers often have to step on a few toes in order to truly get ahead in the business.

“To a fault, I was a little selfless [in WWE] to where I was like, ‘I want you to look great. I want this match to be great. I want everyone to be talking about it.’ Instead of going, ‘I want to be talked about as World Champion.’ And there’s a difference there. Maybe it’s the reason I had a job for 20 years, but also, it’s detrimental to yourself when you’re not full-on stepping on some backs and knifing some people in the back. When you’re not doing that, you miss out on getting ahead.”

While many fans believe Dolph Ziggler should have received more opportunities as a top star in WWE, he ultimately left the company with an impressive list of accomplishments, including reigns as a two-time World Heavyweight Champion, NXT Champion, and numerous midcard and tag team title victories.

Since his departure from WWE, the former Dolph Ziggler has competed under his real name, Nic Nemeth, and is currently signed to TNA Wrestling, where he is a former TNA World Champion.
