Following CM Punk’s AEW exit, claims are now surfacing that he may have been trying to get out of his contract.

Ahead of last night’s episode of Collision, AEW officially announced that CM Punk’s contract had been terminated following an investigation into an incident that occurred at Wembley Stadium on August 27th, with numerous reports claiming there to have been a physical confrontation between Punk and Jack Perry.

During the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Avarez revealed that many people within AEW believe CM Punk’s actions may have been his attempts to get out of his contract.

“There are absolutely many people within AEW that believe he was trying to get out.”

Dave Meltzer then provided his own insight on these claims, adding that a lot of people backstage have believed that this was the case since The Elite extended their deals with AEW earlier this summer.

“I can’t say because I can’t get into his brain, but yes, there was a lot of people that thought ever since that contract was signed with The Young Bucks & Page and everything, that he wanted out and something was gonna happen.”

AEW President Tony Khan addressed the situation at the beginning of last night’s episode of Collision, with Khan stating that he did what he had to do for the people who work for the company and that the incident that transpired at All In was the first time he’s feared for his safety as a promoter.

Punk’s next move following his AEW exit remains to be seen, with many fans believing we may have seen the last of him inside the squared circle, whilst some believe a remarkable WWE return could be on the cards.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on CM Punk’s AEW exit, as well as his next moves, as soon as we hear more.
