Ever since the infamous ‘Brawl Out’ controversy of September 4, CM Punk has been missing from AEW programming. The internal investigation led to all involved parties being suspended but The Elite, who were also involved in the backstage altercation, found themselves back on Dynamite towards the end of November.
We currently have no confirmation as to what the future holds for CM Punk. The star suffered torn triceps during the main event of All Out against Jon Moxley and will be out for the foreseeable regardless of whether or not AEW decide to bring him back. Now, Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the belief from the CM Punk side is that Tony Khan has put Punk on ice for the time being and there has been no talk of releasing him as of late:
“Right now from the Punk side, the belief is that Tony Khan has put Punk on ice for now, as there are no ideas to use him that have been presented but no talk at all of late to release him either.”
– Dave Meltzer
The Chicago native was last seen in a ring holding the AEW World Championship aloft at the end of All Out. Before having to hand back the title due to the controversy, the rumoured plan was that Punk would lose his title to current champion MJF.
As always, we will keep you updated on any changes to CM Punk’s status in AEW as we hear more.
