Sami Zayn Says Second WWE Title Win Proves His First Was No Fluke

Sami Zayn believes winning the Undisputed WWE Championship a second time has removed any doubt about the first.

on the September 11 episode of SmackDown, Sami Zayn took on CM Punk at Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City. To the shock of most watching around the world, “The Last Real Good Guy” took advantage of run-ins from Johnny Gargano and Kevin Owens to beat CM Punk to win the title for the second time. It came less than three months after his first run with the championship, which began on June 27 but only lasted nine days. Now, Zayn has discussed how his second WWE Title win legitimises his first.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Sami Zayn, discussed how different his two wins felt, explaining how winning the championship a second time changed the way he views the first.

“It kind of felt like maybe it was a miracle, maybe it was a fluke, maybe it was this, but I got to say I did it. It’s really hard to get there. I mean, there’s probably less than 100 people in human history that have held that title. So now to be on that list, it was like, ‘Well, I did it. Wow.’ But now doing it the second time is like, ‘No, it’s no fluke.’ I feel like it cemented me in a way. Hopefully that makes sense, but totally different feeling. Equal amount of pride, but it kind of washes away that little part of like, ‘Well, I just got lucky.'”

Sami’s first reign began at Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in June earlier this year, before CM Punk returned from a post-WrestleMania absence and beat him for the championship on the July 6 episode of RAW. As such, some fans questioned whether Zayn’s win was done purely to create a moment for the star in front of the Saudi Arabian crowd, however it now seems as if he’s far from done as a main-event wrestler on SmackDown.

On top of his recent success, new reports suggest Sami Zayn could now be in line for a Crown Jewel main event against World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns on November 7 in Riyadh. You can read more about that here.
