Steve Maclin Reportedly In Preliminary Talks With AEW

AEW have made contact with Steve Maclin, although his future remains uncertain.

On June 7, TNA Wrestling announced that Steve Maclin had been granted his release, making him an official free agent. Further reports later claimed that Maclin had voiced his frustrations with TNA regarding the promotion’s creative direction, and there is now an update on what could lie ahead for his future.

According to Fightful Select, there has been preliminary contact between Maclin and AEW, although it remains unclear whether that will result in the former TNA Wrestling star signing a deal imminently.

“Regarding Steve Maclin, we’re told that there has at least been preliminary contact between he and All Elite Wrestling. However, we haven’t learned much more than that or if a deal is coming any time soon.”

Steve Maclin has been one of the standout performers in TNA Wrestling over the last few years, with his work leading to multiple championship reigns, including a run as TNA World Champion. However, his reported friction with TNA management and the promotion’s direction has been well documented. Matters were not helped when he was removed from the brand through the Feast or Fired match before later returning for a period and eventually requesting his full release.

Should Maclin join All Elite Wrestling, he would be reunited with his wife, Deonna Purrazzo, who is signed with the company and currently holds the Ring of Honor Women’s Pure Championship. It is not uncommon for wrestling couples to seek opportunities with the same promotion, allowing them to spend more time together while balancing their demanding schedules.

It is also possible that Maclin could become part of the ROH brand while making occasional appearances on AEW television, similar to Deonna Purrazzo or ROH Women’s World Champion Athena, who have both featured on AEW programming over the years.
