The Icon’s final opponents were selected by the WWE Hall of Famer himself.

This past Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite saw Sting and Darby Allin defeat the Don Callis Family’s Konosuke Takeshita and Powerhouse Hobbs, after which, Tony Schiavone entered the ring to ask Sting about who his final opponents would be at Revolution in March. Before Sting had a chance to respond, The Young Bucks made their return to Daily’s Place, and thus it appears that they answered Sting’s question for him.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that Sting personally chose The Young Bucks as his final opponents as he enjoyed working with them at Forbidden Door in 2022. Additionally, Meltzer notes that the Jackson brothers were initially planning on taking further time away from AEW before Sting requested them to be his final opponents.

“When he was asked who he wanted to face, they were his choice, as he loved doing the Forbidden Door 2022 match in Chicago (Sting & Allin & Shingo Takagi vs. Bucks & El Phantasmo). The Young Bucks were originally going to take more time off before returning but Sting asked them and they weren’t about to turn that down.”

AEW Revolution will take place on March 3rd at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina, bringing an end to Sting’s legendary 40-year career in the same building where he famously faced Ric Flair at Clash of the Champions in 1988.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the plans for Sting’s retirement match as soon as we hear more.
